Exhibition

Please Hold My Hand, 2024. PE, Fabrics, and Air blower, 50cm x 200cm x 500cm, Situation Specific Encounterface Installation ©️ Eun-Me Ahn
Eun-Me Ahn’s sculpture Please Hold My Hand was showcased at the 2024 Venice Biennale “Pinky Pinky GOOD,” held at the invitation of the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation. The title of this work appropriates that of her 2003 choreography Please Hold My Hand, which premiered in Essen, Germany, at the invitation of Pina Bausch.
The work addresses the theme of human vulnerability and the constant need for help from others. Through unconditional hospitality and helping hands, humans can surpass their individual limits, but at the same time, by holding someone else’s hand, one can become more aware of the boundaries and differences between oneself and others.
In Please Hold My Hand, giant pink inflatable sculptures greet visitors to Seoul Plaza, much like traditional totem poles. These unstable structures carry a sense of precariousness, as if they might take off at any moment. Unlike the exclusive totems that once guarded village boundaries, these sculptures actively explore the space with dynamic and multidimensional rhythms, blurring boundaries and evoking an unknown vitality. These temporary, totem-like figures embody both softness and firmness.
